RCB or otherwise known as Royal Challengers Bangalore, are one of three teams in the IPL who have yet to win the IPL. Despite making three appearances in the final, the IPL trophy has eluded them. RCB was one of the original cricket franchises when the IPL launched in 2008, the Bangalore based team is currently captained by Virat Kohli and coached by former Australian cricketer, Simon Katich. RCB is a recognisable name in the cricket world, but this has nothing to do with their performance as a team or franchise. The individual talents under the RCB franchise have picked multiple accolades, both good and bad. An example of the records RCB currently hold would be the highest and lowest total in the IPL, with a mammoth 263/5 and a miniscule 49 (all-out).

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

Royal Challengers Bangalore are one IPL team which begs the question, how have they not won the IPL? They have not only employed superstar players such as Zaheer Khan, Chris Gayle, Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis and more, but they have played a pivotal part in creating a superstar in Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli join RCB in 2008, the same year the IPL began, off the back of captain India’s U19 team to a World Cup victory. Kohli has since risen to superstar status, he is the Royal Challengers Bangalore current Captain and the all-time leading run scorer in the IPL with 5,412 runs in 177 matches. To add insult to the failure of not winning an IPL, when the franchise first came up of sale, it was the second highest bid for a team, with only the Mumbai Indians being worth more.

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE ROSTER

The Royal Challengers Bangalore roster has already begun with the change in staff at the club. For the past three seasons of the IPL RCB have failed to make the playoffs. Prior to the 2019 season both Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten were brought in to make a change but subsequently failed to perform. This has led to their dismal and the coach for RCB is Simon Katich and he will work alongside a new director of cricket in the shape and form of Mike Hesson. Hesson has already hit the ground running scouting players from the KPL, as it has proven to be a good breeding ground for new talent.

So, what can we expect from RCB in IPL 2020? Well, you can expect some new faces from India, as well as push to get stars such as Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers and Chahal to make more of an impact in the IPL for RCB. Two areas that are for concern for RCB is the leadership from Virat Kohli and the lack of strength in their fast bowlers. Kohli has promised better performances time and time again but we are yet to see that come to fruition.

RCB tend to do well against teams like Delhi a trend they will want to continue if 2020 is to be succesful. We will bring you the RCB vs DC match prediction closer to the fixture.

RCB TEAM 2019

The RCB team 2019 for the third season in a row failed to push the Bangalore franchise in to the playoffs. It’s not like they were even close to qualifying either, as the RCB team finished stone dead last in the group stages. Individually, the likes of Kohli and Chahal, can be some what pleased as they both were amongst the top 10 batsmen and bowlers in the tournament respectively. But, for RCB to achieve their true potential they are going to need to click as a team and not just have individual performers. Come 2020 they will need to repeat the performances of RCB vs KKR 2018, where they won both group matches.

The highlight for the RCB 2019 season has to be their thrilling match against CSK at their home ground the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This match went down to the wire and not even an excellent innings from CSK’s MS Dhoni could get them overline chasing the RCB total, as CSK fell just one run short. This was their first victory in the RCB vs CSK contests since 2014.

RCB TEAM 2018

The RCB team 2018 needed to win their last game of the group stages to make it through to the playoffs, but they were defeated by Rajasthan Royals (RR), who subsequently finished above RCB. The IPL 2018 season began and RCB had a mixed bag of results in the first half of the group stages, winning just two matches in their opening 7 matches. However, the second half of the group stages RCB had decided to wake up and won four matches out of the seven left. A string of three wins in a row had RCB fans excited as it looked like RCB were poised to make a return to the playoffs. All they had to do was win one more match, in a straight shootout against RR, but as I’ve mentioned they were unsuccessful.

RCB TEAM 2017 PLAYERS LIST

RCB team 2017 players list on paper had the makings of an incredible team. Having lost in the final the previous season, RCB looked to retain as many players as possible and go again in the IPL but this time to win. However, their IPL 2017 season would end up being not only of their worst seasons but one of the worse showings from a side in IPL history, maybe that’s a bit harsh but when you have line up as such as theirs, expectations are high. RCB mustered only 3 wins out of their 14 matches and finished last.

RCB OWNER

The RCB owner made a bid of $111.6million in 2008 for the RCB franchise making it the second most expensive of all IPL teams. So, who was this you ask, well It was Vijay Mallya of United Spirits Limited. The nature of the business which bought the Bangalore franchise, was alcohol and the owner wanted to associate the teams name with one the best-selling liquors from the company. The choice was between McDowell’s No.1 or Royal Challenge- I think you can see which one prevailed. However, Vijay Mallya found himself in the centre of controversy in 2016 as he fled India and resigned from his positions in various companies, while leaving a debt of 9 000 crores unpaid. Luckily for RCB, they did not default and receive a ban like CSK and RR for their off-field issues. But, a change of ownership was due, and they took their time in transitioning slowly to a new owner rather than finding the next highest bidder.
