The Sunrisers Hyderabad, or as they prefer to call themselves the orange army, joined the IPL scene in 2013. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), joined the IPL due to the previous Hyderabad based IPL team, Deccan Chargers, had the contract from the IPL terminated due to financial issues. The issues led to Deccan Chargers being banned by the governing council of the IPL. The Deccan Chargers was put up for sale, but unfortunately, no agreement was made with any bids put forward. However, at the last minute the Sun TV Network, one of the biggest mass media networks in India, bought the franchise in late October 2012. A couple of months later the new owners rebranded the Hyderabad based team to what we now know as the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Hailing from Hyderabad their stadium the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium has a massive capacity of 55,000. Since SRH has joined the IPL, they have managed to win it once in 2016, which featured a star-studded performance from one of their oversea players David Warner. Warner manged to accumulate 848 runs in just 17 matches averaging 60 runs per innings, he was only outdone by Virat Kohli who managed to rack up 973 runs. With that said, when you team Warner’s superb batting with the purple cap winner Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Sunrisers Hyderabad, it was always going to give them a recipe for success.
SUNRISERS HYDERABAD TEAM
The Sunrisers Hyderabad team has grown from strength to strength since its inauguration in late 2012. Sunrisers Hyderabad retained 20 players from the previous franchise Deccan Chargers for their first season. Having retained only 20 players, this left them with 13 open slots for eight Indian players and five overseas players, for their maiden IPL season.
Initially, they had appointed the Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara, as he has had experience in captaincy and is a well-coveted player. However, after just nine matches the captain’s armband was handed over to Cameron White. Cameron White captained for just seven games, as SRH only managed to reach the playoffs before Rajasthan Royals eliminated them. Overall, for their debut season, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team had many positives to take away with them with star performers such as Shikhar Dhawan, who made amassed 311 runs throughout the tournament and spin bowler, Amit Mishra taking 21 wickets. Unfortunately for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team they weren’t able to replicate or do better than their performance in their maiden IPL season, for the 2014 IPL season. With the majority of the tournament played outside of India and in the UAE, due to the Lok Sabha Elections. After finishing only sixth and failing to qualify for the playoffs, the Sunrisers Hyderabad were determined to come back stronger.
It wasn’t till 2016 were Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to win their maiden IPL title, winning 11 games and losing 6. Having had their first player, David Warner, receive the orange cap in 2015, it was the turn of fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar to win the purple cap for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. David Warner almost secured the orange cap again but was pipped to the finish line by RCB captain Virat Kohli. It was RCB who took on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final but fell short as SRH won by eight runs and crowned IPL champions in Bengaluru.
SUNRISERS HYDERABAD ROSTER
The Sunrisers Hyderabad roster has always been an interesting spectacle to watch. Since taking over an old franchise, Deccan Chargers, many players have been retained, and many players have been released. After reaching the playoffs yet again in 2019, it will be interesting to see if any players for the upcoming IPL season will be replaced. Having not won an IPL since 2016, the Sunrisers Hyderabad camp must be thinking about how they can repeat their previous success for the upcoming IPL 2020 season.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD TEAM 2018
The Sunrisers Hyderabad team 2018 had a big season ahead of them, as the two previously banned teams, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, made their return to the IPL bringing some serious competition. Unfortunately for the Sunrisers Hyderabad dressing room, one of their best batsmen and captain, David Warner, was relieved of captaincy and removed from the squad as the BCCI would not allow him to play amid the Australian ball-tampering controversy in South Africa. This meant the New Zealand captain Kane Williamson stepped up to captain the Sunrisers for the upcoming IPL 2018 season.
To replace David Warner, England batsmen Alex Hales was pulled into the squad. Despite the loss of David Warner, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team had fairly successful season finishing 1st in the group stages. SRH lost their first playoff match against the Chennai Super Kings, which meant they had to beat the Kolkata Knight Riders to make it to the final. SRH successfully beat KKR, as the KKR team fell short that was set to them. Unfortunately, for the Sunrisers, that’s where they ran out of steam. As they were humbled by CSK in the final thanks to an excellent innings from Shane Watson. A positive to take from the tournament for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, was their captain Kane Williamson picked up the orange cap with a massive total of 735 runs scored through the tournament.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad team 2017 was only made up of 17 players from their previous title-winning squad as they released six players.
SUNRISERS HYDERABAD OWNER
The Sunrisers Hyderabad owner have done exceptionally well to take a new franchise and maintain it since it joined the IPL. There have been many new franchises attempting to join the IPL T20 tournament but what often happens is they are unsuccessful which leads to the franchise collapsing. The SRH franchise is owned by Sun TV Network, where owner Kalanithi Maran placed a winning bid of ₹850.5 million (US$12 million) on a five-year deal, to take over the terminated franchisee Deccan Chargers. It was not too long after where restructure, and rebranding of the team took place and was unveiled in Chennai, where the HQ for the Sun TV Network is based. Since its inauguration in 2013 Sunrisers Hyderabad has gone from strength to strength. Although in 2019, they experienced one of the worst-performing seasons, the owners have managed to create a team and build upon it, making it capable of mixing in with the experienced franchises.
SUNRISERS HYDERABAD BEST PLAYERS
Taking a look at the Sunrisers Hyderabad best players comes down to their individual performances but also what skills they bring to the team, off the pitch. To pick who is the Sunrisers Hyderabad best player, this player must excel in all three parts of the game. Since cricket is game in which you need to excel in three parts of the game, batting, bowling and fielding. If we were to look at the stats of who is the Sunrisers Hyderabad best batsmen, there would only be one-person worth talking about, and that’s David Warner.
Warner is the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s all-time runs scorer, with 4706 runs in 126 matches he is not all the most coveted SRH batsmen but the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL history. This is an incredible achievement considering SRH was only formed in 2013, and the only people to outscore him have played on average 50 more matches. As well as an incredible batsmen Warner has been captain and help guide the SRH team to numerous playoffs including the Sunrisers title-winning season of 2016. With Kane Williamson now leading the team as captain and racking up the runs just as fast as Warner. Although, it must be mentioned that the SRH batting line-up is very top-heavy, with a great deal of reliance on their top three batsmen. It’s one thing to get runs on the board but you also need to take wickets, and there is only one bowler who has stood out time and time again for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team, and that’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
