MI Schedule

As per the IPL 2022 match schedule, MI will play 14 games, out of which they have 7 games scheduled during the first half of the tournament, i.e. before 23 April, and the rest 7 games during the second half. Five-time champions MI will play their first IPL 2022 game against runners-up of 2020 season Delhi Capitals – on Sunday 27 March, at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.

MI match schedule shows their four matches will be played at Wankhede Stadium against SRH, DC, LSG and CSK. MI will play four matches at DY Patil Stadium against teams RR (twice), CSK and KKR.

At Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, MI will play 3 games against LSG, DC and GT, and the remaining 3 games are organized at MCA Stadium, Pune, against PBKS, KKR and RCB. So, Mumbai Indians have just one game in March, 8 games in April, and the rest 5 matches in May.

MI’s two matches against Chennai Super Kings (21 April and 12 May), two against Kolkata Knight Riders (9 May) and 1 clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore (9 April) are the key matches for cricket followers as well as the fans of these franchises.

MI Matches

While IPL 2019 tournament was organized in India, in 2020 it was played in the UAE due to the COVID-19 outbreak in India. Last year, IPL was partially hosted in India and later shifted to the UAE again due to the COVID-19 wave.
 

If we go through the MI match list in the last three years, MI played 46 matches out of which they won 29, with the winning percentage of 63.04. In these three years, they clinched the IPL trophy twice – in 2019 and 2020. They did this by keeping an impeccable winning ratio and also winning key matches in the knock-out, including the final on both occasions.

However, in the IPL 2021, MI couldn’t break into the top-four despite sharing the same points as the fourth-ranked KKR.

The fabulous Mumbai Indians earned two IPL trophies in the last three years. They got the fourth IPL trophy in 2019 and defended it successfully in 2020 to become the team with the most IPL trophies. In those two years, MI won 22 games and lost just 10 games from their 32 outings, including the first qualifier and the final both the time.

In the final against CSK, Kieron Pollard (41 off 25) once again came to the rescue and helped MI put up 149 runs on the board batting first. A couple of run-outs and Jasprit Bumrah’s tight spell of 2 for 14 enabled MI to cross the winning line by a wafer-thin margin of 1 run.

The IPL 2020 season showed their depth on all fronts. The individual performances from Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Jaspreet Bumrah, and others in different games helped them to hold the trophy for the 5th time in 8 seasons.

No one expected Mumbai Indians to start on a poor note in the second leg in UAE. They lost their first three games. Mumbai finally won their first game against Punjab Kings and kept the hopes alive of qualifying for playoffs. In the final game of the group stage, Mumbai needed a win of over 170 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad to qualify for the playoffs based on better NRR.
 

In IPL 2020, most of the Mumbai Indians’ victories were one-sided affairs. In its first qualifier, Quinton de Kock’s quick 40 at the top, and Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’s half-centuries helped MI put up a daunting score of 200 runs against Delhi Capitals. Jasprit Bumrah then bulldozed over DC batsmen as MI won the match by 57 runs.

Both the teams clashed again in the final, where Trent Boult’s 3 wickets for MI restricted DC at 157. In the chase, Rohit Sharma’s 68 runs at the top, with Ishan Kishan’s quick 33 helped MI chase down the total comfortably in 18.4 overs with 3 wickets in their hands. Rohit Sharma lifted the fifth trophy for MI.

In the last IPL season, it was a tough fight between MI and KKR to gain the fourth spot. In the last league match, MI’s scored 235 batting first against SRH thanks to terrific knocks from Ishan Kishan (84 off 32) and Suryakumar Yadav (82 off 40). But to make it to the knock-out stage, they had got the target of dismissing SRH for 65 runs or less. Abu Dhabi’s flat track didn’t help the defending champions, and SRH went on to score 193 runs in response.

Mumbai Indians enjoy playing against KKR the most, as they have a high winning ratio of 75.86, winning 22 out of 29 encounters.
