England vs Ireland 1st ODI 2020

This is Englands first ODI since the South Africa tour some 140 days ago. The side is however barely recognisable with no Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes or Joe Root. The English team is somewhat experimental, but why not against an Irish side still struggling to field a consistently competitive side.

England: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow (wk), James Vince, Eoin Morgan (capt), Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Tom Curran, Saqib Mahmood.

Ireland: Andrew Balbirnie (capt), Paul Stirling, Gareth Delany, Harry Tector, Kevin O’Brien, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Simi Singh, Curtis Campher, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, Craig Young.

England vs Ireland 1st ODI 2020 Match Prediction

england cricket
England to win

England may be missing Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Joe Root but with Jason Roy, Bairstow, Morgan and Banton, the batting side looks highly capable of taking on any bowling side. Tom Banton enjoyed a cracking season in the Big Bash League with Brisbane Heat averaging 31.86 at a strike rate of 177. As usual, the Irishman leading England, Morgan, will be crucial to the team’s chances. He has led England superbly

Ireland is without last years leading ODI bowler, Mark Adai, as he continues his rehabilitation following ankle surgery.

The Irish Captain, Balbirnie, expects a bit more grass to be left on the pitch than usual. This could mean some early movement off the seam and easy batting under lights. Its a relatively slow surface.

The forecast is clear skies with a top temperature of 24 degrees.
